In the HBO series Chernobyl they frequently cite Roentgen readings, such as the 3.6 maximum reading on their initial dosimeters, the 15,000 on the meter on the front of the truck driven as close as possible to the damaged reactor, and 12,000 on the roof that had graphite on it. From searching it seems like it is a measure of dose though, not a current level.
So for example when they say the level is 12,000 Roentgen and they gave the workers 90 seconds on the roof, what would their dose be? Is there an assumed 'per hour', or is there something else I'm missing or misunderstanding?
According to this page 500 Roentgen has an LD of 50/30 and 300 Roentgen can cause acute gastrointestinal syndrome. If it were 12,000 per hour, then 90 seconds would give a dose of 300 Roentgen so that might be possible.
