entanglement status of late hawking radiation in AMPS thought experiment

My first question! Can anyone explain to me why the late hawking radiation MUST be entangled with earlier Hawking radiation in order to ensure unitarity of the S-matrix? It seems to me the whole AMPS paradox hinges on this and yet I cannot find any…
